A Good Day With Friends

Sunday, February 17th, 2008 — 9:31pm (PST)

Yesterday, I met up with both Erin and Scott at the Sunnyvale Farmers' Market. It was their first time meeting each other. We all bought some lovely foods—several kinds of produce and baked goods and more. Scott bought a large planter full of herbs for his wife, Nancie, who he said had been wanting to start an herb garden. I have been wanting to get some live herbs too, but I may wait until I receive another payment or two for my freelance work.

Scott was not the only one giving edible gifts yesterday. I arrived at the farmers' market after Erin and she had already been to the cookie lady's stand, where she bought me a snickerdoodle. Later, when the three of us passed the cookie lady on our way out, I bought a chocolate chip cookie with walnuts for Scott. Good cookies should be shared with good friends.

By the way, for anyone who reads this and is not already familiar with the Sunnyvale Farmers' Market, the cookie lady is named Nancy Higgins and her business is called The European Bake Shop. She makes muffins and brownies too—even cakes, if you ask her—but she brings mostly cookies to the farmers' market. Her stand always seems to be right at the northeast corner of West Washington Avenue and South Murphy Avenue. If you find yourself near there on a Saturday between 9:00am and 1:00pm, try a cookie or four. I have tried several different kinds and loved every one of them.

After finishing our shopping at the farmers' market, the three of us went to lunch together, which gave Erin and Scott a chance to talk and get to know each other a bit. As I expected they would, they got along well and found each other pleasant company, which is good because each of them is a good friend to me.

Yesterday evening, I had dinner with Blanca, her son, her sisters, several of her friends, and the exchange student who has been living with her. It was a short visit, but it was nice to see Blanca and her sisters again and to meet her son, Danny; Nicole, the exchange student she talks about so often; and some of her other friends.
