The Sweetest Surprise

Monday, July 30th, 2007 — 9:30pm (PDT)

Love can be accompanied by many sweet surprises, but sometimes, the sweetest surprise is love itself: love for another, love from another, and best of all, both at the same time between two people who know that they are loved by each other. I am a very lucky person to have been taken unaware by the complete form of this sweetest of surprises.

I wasn't looking for love, but I found it. When I first thought I had caught a glimpse of it, I was not inclined to rush toward it, but it was not inclined to wait for me to catch up and it rushed toward me instead. I was ambushed!

When I adopted a kitten from Erin's sister Emrie, I had no idea that would lead to talking about cats with Emrie's friend Alicia, who also adopted one of Emrie's kittens as well as one of Emrie's older cats and whose roommate then adopted another one of Emrie's kittens, but it did. When Alicia and I started talking about our cats, I had no idea that would lead to conversations about many topics and getting to know each other rather than just getting to know about each other's cats, but it did. When Alicia and I started to get to know each other, I had no idea we would grow fond of each other and grow close to each other then fall in love with each other. But we did.

This love is wonderful. It feels fresh and exciting yet comfortable, recognizable yet new, young and vivacious yet true and pure and healthy and deep, free to soar yet stable and strong, mysterious yet clear and certain, and beautiful in every way. Never before have I felt a love like this.
