I had lunch with my father today after not seeing him for six months, ten days, and perhaps thirteen or so hours. Considering that we live only a few blocks apart, this time apart from each other has not been accidental. Today was his birthday, though, so I took him to lunch at one of his favorite restaurants—a particular Vietnamese soup house—and I would have taken him to a movie as well, but he had a dinner date and things to do before then. We had a pleasant visit.
Since my father couldn't make it to a movie, I was especially glad that I had brought a gift for him as well. It was nothing fancy—just a CD I thought he would enjoy—but I was glad I had brought it.
I also spoke with my nearly mythical sister via telephone today, which was lovely. I have not seen her in literally years because she lives in another state and we rarely speak or write because we grew up mostly apart, so we are not the closest of siblings. I do adore her, though, so I was very happy to share a conversation with her today.
Although it is my father's birthday, he bestowed some gifts upon me today: he gave me one of his televisions and the combination VCR and DVD player that he had connected to it. I had thought I had moved my last tube-television already, but after selling my HDTV to pay my rent earlier this year, I have not had a television at all, so I moved my father's kind gift to my apartment with his help and now I have a television that should be well suited for a Nintendo Wii or perhaps one of Andr LaMothe's XGameStation or Hydra kits when my finances improve.
